24th Chagan Lake Ice Fishing Festival Kicks Off Jan 8

Tomorrow, January 8, the 24th Chagan Lake Fishing and Hunting Cultural Tourism Festival opens in Songyuan City, Jilin Province on the Chinese mainland, bringing one of the region’s most iconic winter spectacles to life. 🎣❄️

This year’s festival celebrates a thousand-year-old ice fishing tradition recognized as a national-level intangible cultural heritage. Visitors can watch artisans hand-cut massive ice blocks or cheer as horse-drawn winches haul nets loaded with fresh fish from the frozen lake.

New this year: a 230,000-square-meter ice and snow amusement park with over 30 activities! From snow tubing and ice slides to a 500-square-meter dome ice-fishing camp with 100 spots, there’s endless fun for up to 3,000 guests.

For ski lovers, the festival introduces an ice-lake ski area that can host 2,000 visitors. Imagine carving down icy slopes framed by endless snowfields—a true winter Wonderland vibe! 🏂❄️

Running until mid-February and closing just before the Spring Festival, the event weaves together natural scenery, cultural heritage and modern creativity. Whether you’re chasing ancient traditions or thrilling snow adventures, Chagan Lake has you covered. 🌨️✨
