Meta announced on Wednesday that it will start notifying users on October 7, giving everyone plenty of heads-up before the system goes live. Interactions with Meta AI—whether by voice or text—will be tracked like your likes, shares and posts to guess what you’re into. 🎯

So if you chat about hiking trails or your dream road trip, expect to spot hiking gear ads, trail recommendations from friends, or even invites to local hiking groups popping up in your feed. 🏞️👟

Christy Harris, Meta’s privacy and data policy manager, says the move is all about transparency and giving users control over their experience. “The goal of the announcement is to be super transparent and make sure that users understand what’s coming with plenty of lead time,” she told reporters.

The rollout begins in most regions first, with Europe and the United Kingdom set to follow later due to stricter data rules. 🌍

While you can’t opt out of data collection when using Meta AI, you retain control over how personalized your ads and content actually get. And don’t worry—conversations on sensitive topics like religion, sexual orientation, politics or health won’t be used for ad targeting. ❤️🤝
