🎥 Say hello to @WhiteHouse on TikTok! On Tuesday, the White House dropped a 27-second clip, tapping into TikTok's huge pool of 170M+ U.S. users. Within an hour, the new account racked up 4.5K followers and counting.
At the same time, former President Trump’s personal TikTok boasts 110.1M followers, although his last post was on November 5, 2024 – the day of the U.S. presidential election.
Behind the scenes, a federal law to force TikTok’s sale or ban on national security grounds was set to take effect the day before inauguration (January 20). But Trump, who once backed a ban, paused the plan and even extended the deadline by 90 days earlier this summer. That extension now runs out mid-September.
In a twist, Trump reversed his stance after realizing TikTok’s power to rally young voters in his campaign. Meanwhile, he remains active on X with 108.5M followers, and on Truth Social—his own platform—with 10.6M followers.
For comparison, the official White House accounts on X and Instagram have 2.4M and 9.3M followers, respectively, showing how each platform plays a unique role in today’s digital race to engage Americans.
