Trump Extends TikTok Divestment Deadline by 90 Days

In a move that has sparked buzz, U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order this week extending the deadline for ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese owner, to complete its divestment. With this new 90-day extension, the saga of TikTok’s future in the U.S. takes another unexpected twist.

This marks the third extension after the first order was signed on his first day in office—when the app briefly went dark—and another in April when a promising deal to spin off TikTok into a U.S.-owned company fell through.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt noted, "President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark. This extension will last 90 days, during which the Administration will work to ensure a deal is closed so that the American people can continue to enjoy TikTok while their data remains safe."

While returning from the Group of Seven summit in Canada, Trump hinted that further extensions might be on the table. With over 15 million followers on TikTok and a personal fondness for the app, his stance reflects a blend of strategic maneuvering and genuine interest in leveraging digital platforms to connect with young audiences. 😎📱

As negotiations continue, all eyes are on how this balancing act between digital innovation and regulatory oversight will shape the future of one of the world’s leading social media platforms.
