Kunming Launches Shared Drone Service at 19.9 Yuan

On April 16, Kunming celebrated a tech milestone by launching its first shared drone service at Moon Bay Park. This innovative initiative by Hongyun Subdistrict in Wuhua District empowers locals and visitors alike to capture stunning aerial views of the city without the hefty price tag.

The service features a single rental cabinet equipped with five DJI drones. With a quick scan of an Alipay QR code, users can rent a drone for just 19.9 yuan for 15 minutes or opt for a 30-minute flight at 39.9 yuan. And for those with a Sesame Credit score of 550 or above, the deposit is waived while first-time users even get a free trial!

Local resident Ms. Qu shared her excitement, stating, "Shared drones lower the barrier to aerial photography and save us the cost of purchasing expensive equipment."

Officials in Wuhua District have hinted at expanding the service, with plans to deploy more rental cabinets at locations including the Wuhua District New Business and Employment Party Service Center, Ma Yuan Rice Track Park, and the scenic Jacaranda Route on Jiaochang Middle Road. Just the day before the main launch, similar services were also introduced at the Dongchuan Outdoor Tour Leader Hub and the Red Soil Scenic Area, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the region's famous red-earth landscapes.

This shared drone project is a key part of Kunming's broader "Low-Altitude Plus" strategy, integrating cutting-edge aerial technology into urban services and tourism. Beyond the fun of capturing unique footage, the system helps park authorities standardize drone operations and gather real-time data on visitor hotspots. Ready to explore the skies? 🚀📸
