U.S. Bans Two Cancer-Causing Chemicals from Everyday Products 🚫

In a major move to protect public health, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has banned two toxic chemicals commonly found in everyday items. Say goodbye to trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE)!

These chemicals have been lurking in products like glue, dry cleaning solvents, and stain removers. 🧴🧼 But no more! The EPA is stepping up to keep us safe.

\"It's simply unacceptable to continue to allow cancer-causing chemicals to be used for things like glue, dry cleaning or stain removers when safer alternatives exist,\" said Michal Freedhoff, Assistant Administrator for the EPA Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention.

That's right—our health comes first! 🛡️

What's the big deal with TCE and PCE?

  • TCE: Known to cause liver cancer, kidney cancer, and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It also affects the central nervous system, immune system, and can cause fetal heart defects.
  • PCE: Linked to liver, kidney, brain, and testicular cancer. It can harm the kidney, liver, immune system, and affect reproduction.

Both are volatile organic compounds and are bad news for our bodies. 🧪🚫

Freedhoff added, \"These rules are grounded in the best-available science that demonstrates the harmful impacts of PCE and TCE. EPA continues to deliver on actions that protect people, including workers and children, under the nation's premier bipartisan chemical safety law.\"

This ban is a huge win for everyone who cares about health and safety. Time to celebrate safer products! 🎉
