Onions Strike Back: McDonald's E. coli Outbreak Sickens 90 Across the U.S.
🧅 Hold onto your burgers, folks! The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) dropped some spicy news Wednesday: slivered onions used by McDonald's have been blamed for an E. coli outbreak that's left 90 people feeling not so happy after their Happy Meals.
\"Fresh, slivered onions served on Quarter Pounders and other menu items from McDonald's are the likely source of this outbreak,\" the CDC announced.
Taylor Farms, the supplier of these onions, has issued a voluntary recall. McDonald's has also pulled the suspect onions from their kitchens.
Earlier this month, restaurants in a dozen U.S. states hit pause on serving certain burgers, leaving many wondering where their favorite meals went. Now we know—the burgers were temporarily off the menu due to the outbreak linked to them.
The numbers are in, and they're not pretty: 90 people have fallen ill, with 27 ending up in the hospital. Sadly, an elderly gentleman in Colorado passed away.
But there's some good news! McDonald's announced on Sunday that it's bringing back its Quarter Pounder hamburgers after E. coli tests came back negative. 🍔🎉
For those who don't know, E. coli is a bacterium that can cause some seriously unpleasant symptoms like stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting that can last three to four days. Most people recover without needing treatment, but some can develop complications.
So next time you're ordering, maybe skip the onions? Just a thought! 😬
