With birth rates dropping 📉 and populations aging around the globe 🌏, many are pinning their hopes on AI robots 🤖 to step in and support the growing number of seniors needing care. But are we really there yet? How feasible is it to rely on robots for elderly care given where AI stands today?
We turned to Zhang Bo, a trailblazing AI expert and academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, for some insight. At 89 years young 🎂, Zhang is one of the OGs of artificial intelligence in China, kicking off his journey back in 1978! 🚀 He's still deep in the game, serving as the honorary director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Zhang believes that while AI has made some impressive strides, there are still challenges ahead when it comes to effectively supporting our seniors. From understanding nuanced human emotions 😌 to ensuring safety and reliability ✅, robots have a bit more growing up to do.
But don't lose hope! 🌟 With continued research and innovation, who knows? The robotic companions of sci-fi movies might just become a reality sooner than we think. Until then, it's all hands on deck to care for our elders the best way we can. 🤗
