Hey there, amigos! Big news coming out of Italy that's shaking up the aviation world. ✈️🇮🇹
Italian prosecutors have accused seven individuals and two subcontractors of fraud and violating airplane safety regulations after an investigation into suspected flawed parts supplied to Boeing. 🚨
Back in late 2021, Boeing discovered that some parts for its 787 Dreamliner were improperly manufactured by a company working for Leonardo, the Italian aerospace giant. 🛩️
Investigators found that two Italian subcontractors used cheaper, non-compliant titanium and aluminum to make certain parts. This move saved them big bucks on raw materials but posed significant risks to aviation safety. 😱
According to the prosecutors in Brindisi, this resulted in airplane parts with lower resistance, potentially impacting the safety of flights. Yikes! 😬
While the subcontractors and the seven individuals haven't been officially named, sources say that Manufacturing Process Specification (MPS) and its predecessor Processi Speciali are at the center of the probe. 🕵️♀️
Antonio Ingrosso, the owner of MPS, and his father Vincenzo, who headed Processi Speciali, are among those involved. Their lawyer stated they're confident they've acted within the law. ⚖️
The accused parties will now have the chance to present evidence in their defense before any further legal steps are taken. 📄
Experts working with prosecutors identified thousands of non-compliant components made of titanium and aluminum. They warned that these faulty parts could, in the long run, compromise aircraft safety, leading Boeing to initiate an extraordinary maintenance campaign. 🔧
Both Boeing and Leonardo are considered victims in this case and have cooperated fully with the investigation. 🤝
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story! 📰
