In a groundbreaking move, China is throwing open the doors of 12 of its nuclear research facilities to scientists and institutions from around the world! 🌏🔬 This initiative aims to boost global collaboration and innovation in nuclear technology.
Among these facilities are the cutting-edge China Advanced Research Reactor, the new-generation tokamak device Huanliu-3, and the Beishan Underground Research Laboratory. These centers specialize in areas like basic nuclear research, isotope production, nuclear environment simulation, equipment testing, and radioactive waste treatment and disposal.
Liu Jing, vice chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority (CAEA), announced this exciting development during a meeting themed \"Share for Development\" on the sidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) annual general conference. The event marked the 40th anniversary of China's accession to the IAEA.
\"We hope this opens up new avenues for international cooperation and accelerates advancements in nuclear technology,\" said Yu Jianfeng, chairman of China National Nuclear Corporation. He emphasized the company's commitment to deepening ties with the IAEA and global partners.
IAEA Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov praised China's achievements in nuclear energy and welcomed the decision to make these facilities accessible. \"This will strengthen our technical capacity to support member states,\" he noted.
The celebrations didn't stop there! 🎉 On Monday evening, a reception was held to commemorate China's 40-year journey with the IAEA. Over 200 guests, including IAEA representatives and foreign envoys, attended the event.
Li Song, China's permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, highlighted the fruitful cooperation over the past four decades. \"China will continue to work with the IAEA and its member states to tackle emerging challenges and promote the use of nuclear energy for the benefit of the Global South,\" he affirmed.
A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of a bronze statue of Qian Sanqiang, a pioneering Chinese nuclear physicist. The statue, unveiled by Liu, Li, and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, will be permanently displayed at the IAEA headquarters alongside figures like Marie Curie, celebrating those who have significantly contributed to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. 🏛️✨
