WHO Approves First Global Mpox Vaccine, Boosting Fight Against the Disease

🚀 The fight against mpox just got a major boost!

The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the first-ever mpox vaccine for global use. Developed by Bavarian Nordic A/S, the MVA-BN vaccine was added to the WHO's prequalification list on Friday.

This means better access to the vaccine in regions facing urgent outbreaks, especially in Africa. 🌍 It's a huge step in reducing transmission and controlling the spread of the disease.

\"This first prequalification of a vaccine against mpox is an important step in our fight against the disease, both in the context of the current outbreaks in Africa, and in the future,\" said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

He emphasized the need to scale up vaccine procurement and distribution to ensure fair access for those most at risk. 🤝

The vaccine is given in two doses, four weeks apart, to adults aged 18 and over. Current data shows it's 76% effective after one dose and 82% effective after two doses. 💉✨

\"This decision will accelerate procurement by international agencies and speed up national regulatory approvals,\" added Yukiko Nakatani, WHO Assistant Director-General.

The WHO also stressed the importance of continuing to collect data on the vaccine's safety and effectiveness.

With this approval, hopes are high for a brighter, mpox-free future! 🌟
