Starting November 1st, China is rolling out the red carpet for foreign investors by lifting all restrictions on foreign investment in its manufacturing sector. 
This groundbreaking move comes with the release of the 2024 version of the negative list for foreign investment access, jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).
What does this mean? 
Well, the number of restrictions is dropping from 31 to just 29, effectively eliminating any barriers in manufacturing for foreign businesses. 
Meng Huating, the deputy head of the foreign investment department at the MOC, shared that this step is all about boosting advanced manufacturing and high-tech industries. 
\"By opening up, we're paving the way for innovative foreign investments and speeding up the growth of new, high-quality productive forces,\" she mentioned. 
Experts are buzzing! 
Zhang Wei, vice president of the Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the MOC, hinted that more opportunities are on the horizon. \"China will further expand the catalog of industries to encourage foreign investment,\" he said. 
For context, China introduced its first negative list for foreign investment back in 2013. Over the past decade, the list has been streamlined from 93 items to just 29 in the non-manufacturing sector. 
That's a major shift towards openness!
Fun fact: Foreign capital in China's high-tech fields has jumped to 37.4% of total foreign investment, up by 10% from 2017 to 2023.
