Sichuan’s Turbines Powering 50 Years of China-Brazil Friendship

🌊 The Madeira River in Brazil has been humming with energy thanks to some hardworking turbines hailing from Deyang, a city in southwest China's Sichuan Province. These turbines aren't just pieces of machinery; they're symbols of 50 years of growing friendship and trade between China and Brazil. 🇨🇳🤝🇧🇷

Over a decade ago, 22 bulb turbines manufactured in Deyang made their way across the ocean to Brazil. Since then, they've been tirelessly generating power on the Madeira River, fueling homes and industries alike.

\"The 22 turbines are performing well,\" shares Yan Zhiyong, President of Dongfang Electric Machinery. Fresh from his visit to the Jirau Hydropower Station in Brazil, Yan is proud of how these turbines have stood the test of time.

\"They are performing better than other units operating on the same platform,\" Yan notes. In fact, the China-developed turbines are 0.39% more efficient compared to those from other global suppliers. That might sound small, but it adds up to each unit generating 40 million more kilowatt-hours of electricity every year! ⚡️

In Brazil, hydropower isn't just a part of the mix—it's over 70% of the country's electricity production. That's huge! And it's where companies like Dongfang Electric see opportunities to keep the momentum going.

\"Through this visit, we learned that Brazil's hydropower installations will continue to be upgraded according to the needs of the power grid,\" Yan says. \"We hope to seize such opportunities to provide them with the best technologies—for the development of Brazil's new energy sector.\"

The Jirau Hydropower Project isn't just another deal; it's the largest hydropower contract between China and Brazil to date, both in terms of installed capacity and the scale of the agreement. But guess what? There's more on the horizon!

🌐 In April, Sichuan Province led a delegation of representatives from several enterprises on a journey to Brazil. This was followed by Brazil opening a new consulate general in Chengdu in June, making it easier for people in southwest China to get visas.

Cezar Amaral, the consul general of Brazil to Chengdu, shared some exciting news: the consulate is setting up technological cooperation and trade promotion sectors. \"Chinese companies from this region will be able to have their appropriate contacts,\" Amaral says.

And there's even more to look forward to! A commercial mission from the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso is set to visit Chengdu for the first time in early September. 📅

By combining Sichuan's technological strengths with Brazil's unique products, the collaboration between the two sides is set to expand across tourism, agriculture, cultural exchanges, and educational initiatives. 🌱🎓✈️

As China and Brazil celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties, these turbines are more than metal and wires—they're a testament to the power of international friendship and cooperation. Here's to many more decades of progress and shared success! 🎉
