Hey there! Did you know that April 15 marks the beginning of China's National Anti-Cancer Week? 🎗️ It's a time when the nation rallies to promote knowledge and awareness about cancer, one of the world's deadliest diseases.
China is making strides to improve cancer survival rates, aiming to raise the overall five-year survival rate for cancer patients to 46.6% by 2030. By 2022, the rate had already climbed to 43.7% from 40.5% in 2015, according to the National Health Commission (NHC). 📈
Thanks to continuous monitoring by the National Cancer Center (NCC) from 2000 through 2018, there's been an average annual decrease of 1.3% in the age-standardized mortality rate from malignant tumors in China. 🙌 That's some hopeful news!
However, the fight is far from over. The NCC estimated that in 2022 alone, China saw 4.82 million new cases of malignant tumors. The most common? Lung, colorectal, thyroid, liver, and gastric cancers. But don't fret! There are steps we can take to reduce our risk. 💪
So, What Can We Do to Keep Cancer Away?
While cancer is a complex disease with many factors at play, up to 40% of cancers might be avoidable through lifestyle changes and controlling risk factors, according to NHC experts. That's a significant chunk! 🧐
- Quit Smoking: Ditch the cigarettes to lower your risk, especially for lung cancer. 🚭
- Eat Healthy: Load up on fruits and veggies, and cut down on processed foods. 🥦🍎
- Stay Active: Regular exercise can boost your immune system. Time to get moving! 🏃♂️
- Limit Alcohol: Drinking less can reduce the risk of various cancers. Cheers to that! 🍹❌
- Protect Your Skin: Use sunscreen to prevent skin cancer. Don't forget to slather it on! ☀️🧴
- Early Detection: Regular screenings can catch cancer early when it's most treatable. 📅
By making these changes and staying informed, we can take charge of our health and reduce the risk of cancer. Let's spread the word this Anti-Cancer Week and support each other in living healthier lives! 💖
