🔥 Earlier this month at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, tempers flared after Algeria’s 2–0 quarter-final defeat to Nigeria on January 10. Violent scenes — including confrontations between players, officials and fans — erupted at the final whistle.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) $100,000, citing improper conduct and security failures at the stadium. Supporters reportedly tried to invade the pitch and even waved banknotes at match officials.
As part of the sanctions, goalkeeper Luca Zidane has been banned for two matches, while defender Rafik Belghali faces a four-match suspension. Both bans will apply during qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The FAF has confirmed plans to appeal, seeking a review of both the fine and the player suspensions.
