Macao’s Public Fitness Boom: How the City Got Moving

In 2025, as the Chinese mainland hosted the 15th National Games in late October, Macao SAR has caught a sporty fever of its own. From promenades to parks, outdoor fitness zones are buzzing with activity! 🏋️‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Sports Scene’s Shen Xiang recently dropped by a popular workout spot and caught up with Ivy Lei of TDM News. They found vibrant open-air gyms, group classes under the palms and even yoga sessions by the waterfront.

Ivy Lei sketched out the big changes: upgraded facilities, more organized programs and a real shift in how people spend their free time. “Exercise is no longer just a solo grind,” she said. “It’s a community affair.”

Lei credits the trend to government promotion, improved infrastructure and local initiatives that make fitness fun and social. Think themed runs, weekend boot camps and free workshops for all ages.

One regular summed it up: “I believe it’s due to government encouragement and the well-maintained facilities. Macao residents generally have a leisurely lifestyle and place great importance on health.”

Looking ahead, organizers hope to deepen participation with targeted outreach and more diverse classes—from senior-friendly tai chi to high-energy dance cardio. Macao is proving that staying active is the new normal. Who’s ready to join? 💪✨
