Lead designer He Ye explains that traditional methods would have meant custom molds, high material waste, and complex manufacturing steps. “Because this torch is designed for the National Games, and the production quantity is limited, using traditional methods, such as creating molds and undergoing complex manufacturing processes, would be a waste of resources,” He says. “So this time, we chose to use 3D printing technology, which allows us to produce only what we need, and avoid the need for customized molds. This makes torch production more resource-efficient and environmentally friendly.”
With the relay set in sunny Guangdong, the team made special tweaks to the flame and air-fuel mixture to guarantee maximum brightness and a vivid color that stands out—even when the sun is scorching. ☀️
