🎾 Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic said an emotional goodbye to pro tennis after a first-round loss at the US Open, capping off a memorable two-decade journey.
“I’m very proud of how I handled pressure, how many times I have been in the Top 10,” Kvitova reflected. “Even though I never reached World No. 1, those two Grand Slam wins feel bigger to me. Wimbledon has a special place in my heart.”
The 35-year-old star, who claimed 31 career titles including Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, returned this season after 17 months on maternity leave. Earlier this year, she announced she would retire after the final Grand Slam of 2025 in Flushing Meadows.
Beyond the trophies, fans will remember her inspiring comeback after a serious hand injury during a home invasion in 2016. “What I’ll miss most is the game itself,” Kvitova said. “Tennis is beautiful because every win or loss rests on your own shoulders.”
As she steps off the court, Kvitova leaves behind a legacy of grit, grace, and unforgettable moments. For many young players, her story will continue to inspire. 🌟
