Tsinghua University's Hephaestus team overcame China Agricultural University's Mountain & Sea team in a thrilling adult size final at the Robo Cup Humanoid League in Brazil on Monday. With a final score of 5-3, Tsinghua made history as the first Chinese team to lift the title in the tournament's 28-year history.
From the group stage onward, Chinese teams dominated the competition. Powered by the domestically developed T1 humanoid robots, Tsinghua delivered multiple clean-sheet victories, including impressive wins of 16-0, 9-0, and 12-0 against UT Austin Villa from the United States.
Other Chinese teams also shone on the global stage, with Tsinghua's TH-MOS securing second place in the kid size category. CAU team leader Yang Shaoshuai noted that outstanding visual positioning, navigation, and decision-making were key factors in their success, although Tsinghua's even more advanced decision-making algorithm ultimately earned them the win.
Cheng Hao, founder of Booster Robotics, the official hardware supplier for the Robo Cup, highlighted the milestone achievement: For the first time, a Chinese hardware platform has become the go-to equipment in a top-tier global competition. This breakthrough showcases how China-made robots are shaping the future of international robotics.
This dynamic performance not only sets a new record but also inspires young tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and students to push the boundaries in robotics and innovation. 🤖
