In a major shake-up for table tennis fans, legendary coach and champion Liu Guoliang has stepped down as president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA). Known for achieving a career singles Grand Slam with victories at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and World Cup, Liu led China’s national team to unforgettable triumphs, including a 4-gold medal sweep at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
During his tenure, CTTA under his leadership claimed an astonishing nine out of ten Olympic gold medals at both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. Despite being re-elected in 2023, Liu has now passed the baton, leaving behind an era defined by excellence and a winning legacy.
Stepping into this new role is CTTA vice president Wang Liqin, a 46-year-old two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time World Championships singles winner. After retiring from the national team in 2013, Wang has been a key figure within the association since 2018. His appointment as the new chief marks the beginning of a fresh chapter in Chinese table tennis, promising innovation and continued glory on the international stage. 🏓💥
