🎮 The countdown to the first-ever Olympic Esports Games just got a new date! Originally slated for 2025, the groundbreaking event has been rescheduled to 2027 and will take place in the vibrant city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
During last July's 142nd IOC Session, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board made a unanimous decision to bring esports into the Olympic family. With this move, esports enthusiasts around the world can look forward to seeing their favorite games take center stage on the Olympic podium.
Saudi Arabia is teaming up with the IOC, partnering with the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committees to organize the event. They’re also joined by the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), who will lend their expertise in game selection and tournament structures, ensuring the Games bridge the gap between traditional sports and the dynamic world of esports.
🏆 \"There is now a very clear roadmap to the historic first-ever Olympic Esports Games. With the road to the Olympic Esports Games starting this year, the Games are becoming a reality,\" said IOC President Thomas Bach.
To make sure everything runs smoothly, a joint committee has been set up, led by IOC member Ser Miang Ng and co-chaired by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal. They’re hard at work defining which competitions will make the inaugural Games unforgettable.
Saudi Arabia is thrilled to add esports to its already impressive lineup of events, including football, motorsports, tennis, equestrian, and golf. 🌟 The kingdom looks forward to welcoming gamers and fans from around the globe to achieve their esports dreams on this prestigious platform.
