Guess what? The 16,000 cardboard beds that hosted athletes during the Paris 2024 Olympics are off on a new adventure! 🛏️✨
Tony Estanguet, the President of the Games, shared that this move is all about Paris 2024's double vision. \"From the beginning, Paris 2024 had a double vision,\" he said. \"To have a spectacular Games but also a responsible Games, and all our partners were involved in those two ambitions.\"
These eco-friendly beds aren't just for show—they're a big part of making the Games more sustainable. \"Speaking about the legacy and sustainability of the Games…the responsibility of the Games, we tried to imagine how much we can guarantee and provide a second life for all the equipment used for Paris 2024,\" Estanguet added.
Originally introduced at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, these sturdy cardboard beds were created by Japanese mattress brand Airweave. They designed them to be both durable and comfortable, supporting up to three or four people jumping on them—because who wouldn't jump for joy after winning a medal? 🥇🎉
\"We designed these cardboard beds so that they can support up to three or four people jumping, because after winning a medal, people are very happy,\" said Motokuni Takaoka, founder and president of Airweave.
Now, these beds are getting a second life in France. \"We will donate to a diverse group of organizations in France,\" shared Chie Fujii, Logistics Manager of Airweave's Paris 2024 Project. \"And yes, the mattress is totally washable. No bed bugs! Which will make it easy to facilitate the second life.\" 🛏️♻️
It's all part of making the Games not just a spectacular event but also a responsible one. Kudos to Paris 2024 for leading the way in sustainability! 🌍🌟
