In a shocking turn of events at the Paris Olympics, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has decided to skip the closing ceremony. Why? It's all about the bronze medal that slipped away from Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu!
Ana Barbosu thought she'd clinched the bronze on the floor exercise on Monday, feeling on top of the world as she stood third in the standings at the Bercy Arena. But plot twist! The U.S. coaches for Jordan Chiles, who was fifth at the time, requested a score revision.
The revision bumped Chiles up to bronze, pushing Barbosu off the podium. Talk about heartbreak! Ana was left in tears, and Romanians everywhere felt the sting.
Prime Minister Ciolacu didn't hold back his feelings. He took to Facebook, saying, \"I decided not to attend the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, following the scandalous situation in gymnastics, where our athletes were treated in an absolutely dishonorable manner.\"
He added, \"It is unacceptable that, in such a great competition that promotes values such as respect, understanding, and excellence, a child who had honestly earned her medal is brutally deprived of the result of four years of work!\"
Even the legendary Nadia Comaneci , who nailed that perfect 10 in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, chimed in. \"I can't believe we play with athletes' mental health and emotions like this,\" she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
This drama has everyone talking! What do you think about the decision? Let us know!
