Yang blazed through the streets of Paris, finishing with a season-best time of 1:25:54. She left Spain's Maria Perez (1:26:19) and Australia's Jemima Montag (1:26:25) trailing behind to claim silver and bronze.
Already the world record holder with a time of 1:23:49, Yang adds an Olympic gold to her collection. She had previously won the world championship in London 2017, but this is her first Olympic victory!
Right from the start, Yang took the lead, completing the first kilometer in just 4:22. By the halfway mark at 10km, she clocked in at 43:06, still leading the pack. She widened the gap to 30 seconds ahead of Perez after 15km. Even as Perez pushed hard in the final stretch, Yang held strong and crossed the finish line victorious! 🏁💪
