Sydney Marathon Hits Record 24,000 Runners, Aims for World Marathon Majors 🌟

Sydney's Marathon is sprinting towards the big leagues! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💨 This year, the iconic race has reached a record capacity of 24,000 runners, the largest ever for any marathon in Australia. 🎉

This phenomenal turnout gives a massive boost to Sydney's bid to join the prestigious World Marathon Majors circuit – think of it as the Avengers of marathons! 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️ Currently, the elite series includes Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York marathons. Sydney is hoping to join this star-studded lineup by 2025.

Race director Wayne Larden couldn't hide his excitement: 'This is a momentous year for the Sydney Marathon as we aim to become the next World Marathon Major. We are committed to delivering a world-class event that Australia is proud of,' he said. 🌏❤️

Last year's marathon around our beautiful harbor city 🌊 attracted a record 17,000 runners and over 100,000 cheering spectators. But this year, we're taking it to the next level! 🚀

Sure, we've got some catching up to do with the big guns. The London Marathon received a whopping 840,318 applications for the 2025 race! 😱 But hey, every hero has an origin story, right? And ours started back at the 2000 Olympic Games. 🏅

So mark your calendars! 📅 This year's Sydney Marathon is unveiling a new course on the morning of September 15th. Whether you're running or cheering from the sidelines, be part of history in the making! 🙌
