🎉 The stars were out at the Laureus Awards, and what a night it was! Spain's football sensation Aitana Bonmati took home the Sportswoman of the Year award, adding yet another accolade to her growing collection. Not only that, but the Spanish Women's Football Team made history by becoming the first female squad to win the Team of the Year award! ⚽️🇪🇸
On the men's side, tennis legend Novak Djokovic was named Sportsman of the Year for the fifth time! 🏆 The award was presented by none other than seven-time Super Bowl champ Tom Brady. Djokovic had an epic 2023, matching Margaret Court's all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles after his US Open victory last September. He snagged three Grand Slam titles this year, including the Australian and French Opens, and was runner-up at Wimbledon. Talk about domination! 🎾🔥
Meanwhile, England's midfield maestro Jude Bellingham was crowned Breakthrough Player of the Year. At just 20 years old, he's been lighting up LaLiga with Real Madrid and is the first footballer ever to win this award! 🌟
The amazing Simone Biles made a triumphant return, earning the Comeback of the Year award after grabbing four gold medals at the World Championships, including a record sixth all-around title. Welcome back, Simone! 🤸♀️💫
Other winners included skateboarder Arisa Trew as Action Sportsperson of the Year, and Diede de Groot, who was named Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability after her third straight calendar Grand Slam. 🛹🏆
The Rafa Nadal Foundation also took home the Sport for Good award for its incredible work supporting vulnerable young people in Spain and India. Big applause for making a difference! 👏❤️
