Deadly clashes in Aleppo spark mass displacement

🚨 On Thursday, Jan 8, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that two days of heavy fighting in Aleppo, Syria's second-largest city, have left at least five civilians dead—including two women and a child—and dozens more injured.

Health facilities such as Zahi Azarak, Ibn Rished and Othman hospitals were damaged, with some forced to halt operations just when they were needed most. Schools, universities and government institutions have shut down, and Aleppo International Airport has suspended flights.

OCHA said movement on key roads is now restricted. Since Wednesday morning, thousands of families have fled their homes, seeking shelter with host communities in Aleppo city and the Afrin district. Two humanitarian corridors opened in Awared and Zuhour to help civilians evacuate.

Fighting has centered on Kurdish-majority areas like Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, highlighting tensions between Damascus authorities and the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. The UN and its partners are rushing to provide aid, but the path to recovery remains steep.

For many Aleppo residents, safety is still out of reach—displaced, uncertain and hoping for a ceasefire. 🌍❤️
