Today, on December 22, 2025, foreign ministers from ASEAN gathered in Kuala Lumpur to address the recent flare-up between Thailand and Cambodia. The special meeting, chaired by Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, focused on de-escalating tensions and promoting peace in the region 🕊️.
Malaysia's Foreign Ministry described the meeting as a chance for members to explore steps toward a cessation of hostilities, highlighting that a security shock in one country can ripple across the entire region and beyond 🌏.
Mohamad Hasan reminded attendees that ASEAN stands at a critical crossroads amid shifting geopolitical landscapes: "This threatens ASEAN's credibility as one of the most peaceful and successful regional organizations … cessation of hostilities and peaceful resolution [must be] a top priority."
Thailand's Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow proposed a face-to-face gathering on December 24 at Thailand's Chanthaburi province border, aiming for direct dialogue between the two sides 🤝.
