Thailand Deploys Fighter Jets After Deadly Border Clash with Cambodia

On Monday, Dec 8, 2025, tensions soared as the Royal Thai Air Force launched fighter jets in response to a deadly exchange of fire along the Thailand-Cambodia border. The Thai Army reported one soldier killed and four wounded after Cambodian forces opened fire in the Chong Bok area of Nam Yuen District at around 7:00 a.m.

Earlier at 5:05 a.m., another clash erupted in the nearby Chong An Ma area when Cambodian troops used small arms and indirect weapons against Thai soldiers. Under the rules of engagement, the Thai side returned fire.

To counter what it described as a direct threat to national security, the RTAF began air operations targeting Cambodian military positions. RTAF Spokesperson Jackkrit Thammavichai explained that the jets were used to deter and reduce Cambodia’s military capabilities to the minimum needed to protect Thailand’s national security and civilians. 🛩️⚠️

Meanwhile, Cambodia’s Defense Ministry spokesperson Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata asserted that Thai forces fired first at 5:04 a.m. in the An Ses area of Preah Vihear province, then fired tank rounds near Tamoan Thom temple and around Preah Vihear temple. She stressed that Cambodia did not return fire and has chosen to uphold past agreements and seek peaceful resolutions under international law.

Cambodia has informed the ASEAN Observer Team and plans to request an investigation into the incidents. Both sides remain on high alert as regional leaders watch closely, hoping tensions will ease soon. 🤝🌏
