HKSAR Commemorates 80th Anniversary of WWII Victory

Good morning, history buffs and peace lovers! 🌅 On September 3, at 8 a.m., the HKSAR held a solemn ceremony in the City Hall Memorial Garden to mark the 80th anniversary of V-Day – celebrating the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

The morning kicked off with the national anthem 🎶, followed by a dignified flag-raising 🚩. The Police Rifle Squad then fired a volley of rifles 🔫, leading into a moving moment of silence 🕊️. A Guard of Honor laid wreaths 🎗️, and attendees, including veterans and youth representatives, bowed in tribute to those who fought for peace.

The guest list read like a who’s who of HKSAR leadership: Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan, senior government officials, Wang Songmiao from the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Chen Feng from the Office for Safeguarding National Security, Li Yongsheng from the Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner’s Office, and Tan Zhiwei of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison. Plus, voices from all corners of Hong Kong society earned a spot at the ceremony.

Flashback to February 2014: the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress officially chose September 3 as V-Day. By August of that year, the HKSAR government began hosting an annual ceremony to keep the memory alive.

Today’s event was a powerful reminder that history isn’t just in textbooks – it lives on in our shared moments of respect and reflection. Here’s to honoring the past so we can build a brighter future! ✨
