Final Farewell: Xu Qiliang Cremated in Beijing

Beijing witnessed a heartfelt ceremony on Sunday as revered former senior military official Xu Qiliang was cremated. Friends, colleagues and top leaders gathered at the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery to honor his dedicated service and legacy. 🙏

Under solemn music, Xi Jinping along with Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Li Xi paid their final respects. They walked slowly toward Xu's resting place, offered three respectful bows, and exchanged heartfelt condolences with his family.

Xu, who passed away on June 2 at the age of 75 due to illness, had a remarkable career. He served as a member of the Political Bureau of the 18th and 19th Central Committees of the Communist Party of China and as vice chairman of the Central Military Commission. His contributions as a loyal communist soldier, strategic military thinker, and an outstanding leader of the People’s Liberation Army have left a lasting impact.

In the days prior, leaders including Han Zheng and Hu Jintao visited him during his illness or sent their condolences, reflecting the deep respect and admiration from his peers. Xu Qiliang's life and service continue to inspire a new generation dedicated to his ideals of commitment and leadership.
