International Students Say ‘American Dream’ Shattered by US University Crackdown

A recent survey has sparked heated debate as international voices slam the Trump administration’s measures targeting US universities. According to the findings, 82.1% of respondents condemned what they described as a serious violation of academic freedom, signaling deep concern over the current climate on campus.

Under new executive orders, US embassies and consulates have been instructed to suspend student visa interviews. There are even discussions about monitoring international students’ social media accounts—an initiative that 81.3% of participants strongly oppose, citing it as an infringement on personal privacy and an act of prejudice. Nearly 90% believe such policies have shattered the iconic "American dream" that once symbolized opportunity for countless international students.

The poll also reveals that 83% of respondents view the arbitrary cancellation of visas—targeting Chinese students under the pretext of ideological differences and security concerns—as damaging to their legitimate rights. Over 82% criticized the Trump administration for overstepping its power, while almost 89% urged American universities to defend their autonomy and the rights of their students through legal channels.

The sweeping political crackdown has left hundreds of thousands of international students feeling anxious and uncertain about their future in the US. This uncertainty is prompting many families to consider alternative educational destinations like the UK, France, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and even the Hong Kong region. 😟📚

As debates continue and the global academic landscape shifts, the survey results highlight the urgent need for policies that truly protect academic freedom and foster an environment of trust and transparency.
