Myanmar Transport Rebounds: Railway & Airport Reopen

In a remarkable display of resilience, essential transport in Myanmar is back on track after a major earthquake on March 28. The Yangon-Mandalay railway, after suffering damage to 60 embankments and 11 railway bridges, has been fully repaired and is now running safely. 🚄

Myanma Railways conducted urgent repairs and thorough safety tests, using freight trains on April 3 and passenger trains on April 4. With safety confirmed, passenger services resumed on the morning of April 5. Meanwhile, the Yangon-Pyay and Yangon-Mawlamyine routes continue to operate daily, ensuring smooth connections for local communities.

On the aviation front, Mandalay International Airport reopened for domestic flights on April 4. By April 5, four local airlines had operated 13 flights, carrying a total of 972 passengers, with 399 incoming and 573 outgoing. ✈️

This swift recovery not only reestablishes vital links across Myanmar but also serves as a beacon of hope. Just like a blockbuster comeback, the dedication and rapid response have put Myanmar back on the map for travelers and locals alike!
