Protests Erupt in Denmark Over Vance’s Greenland Visit

In a spirited show of unity, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Denmark's capital, Copenhagen, and in Aarhus on Saturday. The protest erupted after U.S. Vice President JD Vance, along with an American delegation, visited Pituffik Space Base in northwest Greenland (formerly Thule Base), where he sharply criticized Denmark for its approach to Arctic security and the well-being of Greenlandic people.

Former foreign minister and United Nations General Assembly president Mogens Lykketoft addressed the crowd in Copenhagen, urging them to take their fight to the United Nations and rally global support against what he described as American aggression. His passionate words were met with resounding cheers and chants in both Greenlandic and Danish, with demonstrators proclaiming, "Greenland is not for sale." ✊🌍

In Aarhus, demonstrators echoed these sentiments in the city center, voicing strong support for Greenland's autonomy. Historically, Greenland, once a Danish colony, was integrated into the Kingdom of Denmark in 1953 and later granted home rule in 1979 – a milestone that continues to influence discussions on its self-determination and security in the Arctic.

The events have ignited a broader dialogue on heritage, security, and autonomy, resonating with news enthusiasts, young professionals, and culture explorers alike.
