Israeli Cabinet Greenlights Gaza Ceasefire to Secure Hostage Release

In a landmark decision, the Israeli government gave the green light on Saturday for a ceasefire agreement with the aim of bringing home hostages held in the Gaza Strip. After an intense meeting with all cabinet members, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office made the announcement, marking a pivotal moment in the 15-month-old conflict. 🕊️

According to Israeli media, the agreement was met with substantial support—24 ministers voted in favor, while eight stood in opposition. \"The Government has approved the framework for the return of the hostages. The framework for the hostages' release will come into effect on Sunday,\" Netanyahu's office stated.

However, the conflict's toll continues to rise. Medics in Gaza reported that an Israeli airstrike early on Saturday resulted in the deaths of three people in a tent in the Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, deepening the humanitarian crisis.

This incident brings the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli strikes to 119 since the ceasefire pact was announced on Wednesday, highlighting the fragile nature of the agreement and the urgency for peace. ✌️

The United States has been instrumental in brokering the deal. Lead U.S. negotiator Brett McGurk expressed optimism, saying that the White House expects the ceasefire to commence on Sunday morning. \"We have locked down every single detail in this agreement. We are quite confident… it is ready to be implemented on Sunday,\" McGurk told CNN.

Under the terms of the agreement, the ceasefire will begin with an initial six-week phase involving hostage-for-prisoner exchanges, which could pave the way toward ending the prolonged conflict. Thirty-three Israeli hostages, including women, children, and men over 50, are set to be freed. In return, Israel will release all Palestinian women and children under 19 detained in Israeli jails by the end of the first phase.

This development sparks hope for many who have been yearning for peace and the safe return of loved ones on both sides. 🌟
