Chaos in Seoul: Acting President Choi Sang-mok Faces Insurrection Probe

South Korea 🇰🇷 is buzzing with political drama! On Monday, the police booked Acting President Choi Sang-mok on insurrection charges 😱. This all stems from the impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol's controversial martial law declaration.

A civic group called Candlelight Action filed a complaint against Choi, who also serves as the Minister of Economy and Finance. After the impeachment of both President Yoon and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Choi stepped in as the acting president. Now, he's accused of plotting rebellion and turning a blind eye to insurrection.

The special investigative unit of the National Office of Investigation booked Choi and others earlier today on treason-related charges. Reports say Choi was part of a cabinet meeting that endorsed the emergency martial law declared by Yoon on December 3rd. But here's the kicker—it was revoked by the National Assembly just hours later! 🕒

Meanwhile, the impeached Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was asked by the police to appear for questioning for a second time, making him the first cabinet member to be interrogated twice over the martial law issue. Han was impeached after he refused to appoint three constitutional court justices needed for Yoon's impeachment trial.

The impeachment motion against Yoon was passed on December 14th and is now with the constitutional court, which has up to 180 days to make a decision. To officially remove Yoon from office, at least six out of nine constitutional court justices need to uphold the impeachment.

Talk about a political rollercoaster! 🎢 The streets of Seoul are tense, and everyone is waiting to see how this dramatic saga unfolds.

Stay tuned, amigos! 👀
