Macao SAR Gears Up for Sixth-Term Chief Executive Election This Sunday! 🗳️

Macao SAR is all set for a big day! 🗳️ This Sunday morning, the region will hold its sixth-term chief executive election at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex.

On Saturday, Macao SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng took a tour of the polling station to check out the preparations. After recent amendments to the Chief Executive Election Law to reinforce the principle of \"patriots administering Macao,\" Ho emphasized the special significance of this election. He called on the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) to ensure everything runs smoothly.

\"We've been working hard to get everything ready,\" said Song Man Lei, president of the EAC. \"All arrangements are set for a smooth election day!\"

The polling station is prepped with 32 voting booths and 8 ballot boxes, ready for all 400 members of the Chief Executive Election Committee to cast their votes. And here's the cool part: votes will be counted and announced right after voting wraps up!

Polling kicks off at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Sam Hou Fai, who already snagged 386 nominations from the Chief Executive Election Committee, is the sole candidate in the running.

According to the Macao SAR Basic Law, the chief executive is elected by a broadly representative Chief Executive Election Committee and then appointed by the Central People's Government. The chief executive serves a five-year term.
