China Criticizes Philippines’ UN Submission Over South China Sea 🌏

🌊 Tensions are rising in the South China Sea! On Monday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced strong opposition to the Philippines' recent move to submit information to the United Nations about the extent of its undersea shelf in the disputed waters.

According to reports, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs announced on June 15 that it had sent details to the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf. The goal? To seek exclusive rights to exploit resources in the area, in line with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

However, China isn't happy about this. During a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed concerns, stating that China is keeping a close eye on the situation and gathering more info. \"There are territorial issues and disputes over maritime delimitation in the South China Sea between China and the Philippines,\" Lin emphasized.

He further argued that the Philippines' unilateral action violates international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and goes against the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea. ⚖️

Lin Jian pointed out that, based on the rules of the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, any submission involving disputed waters won't be considered or qualified. In other words, the Philippines' move might hit a dead end. 🚧

This isn't the first time the two countries have butted heads over the resource-rich South China Sea. With both nations claiming rights over parts of the sea, it's a complex situation that's far from being resolved. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding story! 📢
