🌍 This September, world leaders gathered for a historic moment: the 80th anniversaries of the UN’s founding and the end of WWII. On this stage, Chinese Premier Li Qiang delivered a bold call to action: it’s time to honor the UN’s founding dream of “a world free of war” and escape the “law of the jungle.”
Li warned that today’s multilateral framework faces fresh threats: a surge of unilateralism, growing protectionism, and a Cold War mindset. In a powerful charge, he asked, “How could we, when confronted with unscrupulous acts of hegemonism and bullying, remain silent and submissive for fear of might?” 🕊️
As a founding UN member, China has long backed true multilateralism. From sending more peacekeepers than any other permanent member of the UN Security Council to championing equality among all countries, Li reminded the assembly of China’s track record as a peacemaker.
But talk is not enough. Li unveiled a four-pillar roadmap from Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision for a community with a shared future for mankind:
- Global Development Initiative 🌱
- Global Security Initiative 🛡️
- Global Civilization Initiative 🎨
- Global Governance Initiative 🌐
On the peace front, the Global Security Initiative calls for dialogue over confrontation and partnership over alliances. As Li put it, “Persisting in camp-based confrontation or willful resort to force only drives peace further away.”
China has already put these ideas into action—mediating the restoration of ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran and helping kick-start peace talks in global hotspots. By stepping up as an anchor for stability, Li says, Beijing lives its message.
For young changemakers everywhere, Li Qiang’s address shines a light on the power of cooperation over division. With a clear roadmap in hand, the question now is: will the world follow? ✨
