Xi Pushes Equality as the Heart of Global Governance

Imagine a world where every country, big or small, rich or developing, gets an equal seat at the table. At the SCO+ summit in Tianjin, Chinese President Xi Jinping laid out his vision for a fair global system, anchored in five principles: sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and real action.

Equality, Xi argued, is the foundation for governance that benefits everyone. It means respecting each nation’s right to choose its own path based on history, culture and conditions. Sounds simple, right? Yet the gap between the Global North and Global South keeps growing.

Consider this: a World Bank report shows developing economies’ growth fell from nearly 6% in the 2000s to just 3.5% today. Meanwhile, UN data reveals two-thirds of people live in countries where the rich–poor divide is widening, and over a third survive on less than $7 a day 😲.

Then there’s the AI revolution. While high-income nations boast 93% internet access, low-income countries hover around 27%. This digital divide risks leaving some regions even further behind as AI transforms industries. Traditional manufacturing hubs could struggle to keep up when tech gets more capital-intensive and less about labor.

Xi’s call for equality reminds us that real change needs both vision and action. Can the world bridge the gap and build a system that lifts everyone up? It’s a long road, but it starts with ensuring every voice is heard at the global table 🌍✊.
