President Xi Unveils Global Governance Initiative at SCO Summit

Global challenges are rising: conflicts, protectionism, poverty and climate crises. In this moment of uncertainty, President Xi took center stage at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in northern Chinese mainland's port city of Tianjin—the largest gathering in the SCO’s 24-year history. 🌐

Building on his previous blueprints—Global Development, Global Security and Global Civilization Initiatives—Xi unveiled his new Global Governance Initiative with five clear pillars: sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, people-oriented policies and action orientation 🤝.

This vision ties into his concept of a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity, emphasizing that China’s path forward should benefit all of humanity. At a time when unilateral approaches deepen divisions, Xi’s roadmap calls for fairer, more democratic and efficient global governance.

Experts echo the call: Jorge Moreira Da Silva, Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services, pointed out the vital need for stronger coordination and multilateralism, saying China plays a key role. Siddharth Chartterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China, added that only global understanding and solidarity can tackle today’s difficulties.

Looking back at the 1960s and 1970s, developing nations rallied for a just international economic order. Decades later, many still face poverty and underdevelopment. Xi’s plan revisits that call, aiming for a fair economic system where growth is shared—an ambition the SCO has championed and China has begun making a reality.

As the world navigates complex challenges, President Xi’s Global Governance Initiative offers a fresh, action-oriented roadmap for a more united and equitable future. It’s an invitation for all countries to step up, work together and build a better world—together. 🌏✨
