Typhoon Wipha Approaches Vietnam’s Northern Coast

Typhoon Wipha is barreling toward Vietnam's northern coast and the preparations are in full swing! With nearly 350,000 soldiers on standby, authorities brace for up to 50 centimeters of rainfall that could trigger flooding and mudslides. ⛈️

As of 6:00 a.m., the typhoon was 60 kilometers off Haiphong City's coast, with wind speeds reaching 102 kph and a southwest pace of 15 kph. It is expected to make landfall in Hung Yen and Ninh Binh provinces before weakening to a low-pressure event by Tuesday night.

Residents are keeping a cool head amid the forecast. One local from Cat Ba Island noted, "We are able to go outdoors this morning as the wind is not too strong." This calm moment is a reminder of how unpredictable nature can be – just like the most surprising plot twists in our favorite shows! 😊

Earlier, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh placed coastal provinces on emergency footing, preparing for potential hazards. Airlines have canceled and rescheduled flights and several airport, port, and train services are temporarily suspended.

With a long coastline facing the South China Sea and frequent encounters with typhoons, Vietnam remains alert. Last year's Typhoon Yagi had a major impact, emphasizing the need for vigilance as communities prepare for Wipha.
