Lights Back On! Hainan Restores Utilities after Super Typhoon Yagi

📢 Hey everyone! Great news from the Chinese island province of Hainan! After facing the wrath of Super Typhoon Yagi, which tragically took 4 lives and injured 95, things are starting to look up. 🌤️

The island is buzzing back to life as electricity, water, and cell phone services are being restored. \"People have generally calmed down,\" shared Jiang Jianmin, deputy head of publicity at the Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, during a press conference on Sunday. \"Now we are trying to recover from the disaster.\"

The heroes at the provincial electricity supplier are working round the clock to bring back power. \"Our employees cannot use air conditioners or fridges just like our clients so we can feel the urgency,\" said Zhao Youcheng from the Hainan Power Grid Corporation. So far, they've restored supply to 0.91 million of the 1.68 million affected clients. ⚡

Priorities are set on key infrastructure like water suppliers, hospitals, and schools. Gotta keep the essentials running! 🏥🏫

On the communication front, over a quarter of cell sites were knocked out by Yagi. But no worries! 📶 As of Sunday evening, nearly half of those sites are back online, with a total of 14,000 base stations up and running. If your cell signal is still weak, maybe try a landline or hop onto a fixed broadband connection. 📞💻

Water supply took a hit in cities like Wenchang and Haikou. While many are back online, about 63,000 people in 125 residential areas are still awaiting water. Hang tight, folks! Local government estimates things will be back to normal around midnight. 🚰

Big shoutout to the province for allocating 1.1 billion yuan ($160 million) even before the typhoon hit! With support from the central government, an additional 1.18 billion yuan ($170 million) was set aside for disaster relief. Way to go! 💪

It's heartwarming to see everyone coming together and bouncing back stronger. Stay safe and keep that positive vibe going, Hainan! 🌴❤️
