Typhoon Gaemi Strikes Fujian: Over 628,000 Affected 🌪️

Brace yourselves! Typhoon Gaemi has swept through the Chinese mainland's Fujian Province, impacting over 628,600 people 😱 as of 6 a.m. on July 26, according to data from the province's flood control and drought relief headquarters.

Fujian ramped up its emergency response to Level III, the third highest in their four-tier system, by 10 p.m. on Thursday after Gaemi made landfall. 🌬️🌧️

By 8 a.m. Friday, Gaemi was stirring things up in Sanming City, moving northwest at about 20 km/h. It's projected to reach Jiangxi Province by Friday evening and will gradually chill out as it moves northward.

China's National Meteorological Center dropped an orange alert 🚨 (second-highest level) for the typhoon on Friday morning. Thanks to Gaemi, folks in southern Taiwan, Fujian, southern Zhejiang, eastern Guangdong, central and eastern Jiangxi, and other areas should expect heavy rain until 8 a.m. on Saturday. ☔

On Thursday, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management got together with departments of meteorology, water resources, and more to strategize on flood and typhoon control. Expert groups have hit the road to assist in provinces like Fujian, Zhejiang, Hebei, Sichuan, and Anhui. 💪

The Ministry of Emergency Management is on point with over 4,500 rescue personnel, more than 1,600 sets of equipment, and eight helicopters 🚁 ready for action in key areas like Zhejiang and Fujian.

Also, the Ministry of Water Resources upped the flood control response to Level III in Zhejiang and Fujian at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Ministry of Transport went one better, raising the typhoon response to Level II at 3 p.m. Wednesday. All passenger trains in Fujian took a pause on Thursday. 🚉

Stay safe out there, everyone! And if you're in the affected areas, keep an eye on updates and take care! ❤️
