The sun blazed relentlessly over Morocco this week, and in the central city of Beni Mellal, the heat proved deadly. In just 24 hours, at least 21 people lost their lives due to soaring temperatures, according to the health ministry on Thursday.
🔥 With the mercury hitting a staggering 48°C (118°F) in some parts, the heat wave gripped much of the North African nation from Monday through Wednesday. The meteorology department reported that Beni Mellal was one of the hardest-hit areas.
\"Most of the victims were elderly or suffered from chronic illnesses,\" the regional health directorate shared. \"The extreme heat contributed to the worsening of their health conditions.\" 🏥
Beni Mellal, located over 200 kilometers southeast of Casablanca, continued to sizzle with temperatures around 43°C (109°F) on Thursday. 🥵 Residents sought shade and hydration, trying to cope with the oppressive heat.
But there's a respite on the horizon! 🌤️ The meteorology department forecasts a drop in temperatures in the coming days. In the ever-popular Marrakesh, tourists and locals alike can look forward to a 10-degree dip by Sunday.
Stay cool and take care, Morocco! Remember to check on vulnerable neighbors and keep those water bottles filled. 💧
