Typhoon Gaemi made its fierce entrance into the Taiwan region early Thursday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The storm tragically claimed the lives of three people and left 380 others injured. The central and southern parts of the island were hit the hardest, with heavy rains triggering floods, uprooting trees, closing roads, and causing widespread power outages.
From Tuesday morning till 5 p.m. on Thursday, some areas in Kaohsiung City were drenched with a staggering 1,600 millimeters of rainfall! That's like Mother Nature turning on the shower and forgetting to turn it off.
Other regions like Pingtung County, Chiayi City, Yilan County, and Tainan City didn't escape the downpour either, each recording over 1,000 millimeters of rain.
The storm may have moved away from the island by Thursday morning, but its massive storm circle is still affecting multiple areas, according to local authorities.
As the Taiwan region begins the recovery process, emergency services are working tirelessly to restore normalcy. Our hearts go out to all those affected.
Stay safe out there, amigos, and always keep an eye on the weather updates!
