Hold onto your hats, folks! 🎩🌬️
Over the weekend, Beryl decided to crank up the volume and has officially transformed into a hurricane! 🌪️ Heading straight for the southeastern Caribbean, forecasters warn that Beryl is expected to intensify into a dangerous major storm before gracing Barbados with her presence late Sunday or early Monday.
For those keeping score, a major hurricane is considered Category 3 or higher, boasting winds of at least 178 kilometers per hour. On Saturday night, Beryl was chillin' as a Category 1 hurricane, but here's the kicker: she formed the farthest east in the tropical Atlantic in June ever recorded! 🎉 She broke a record set way back in 1933! Talk about making an entrance. 🙌
With Beryl on the move, a hurricane warning has been issued for Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Meanwhile, Martinique and Tobago are under a tropical storm warning, and Dominica is on a tropical storm watch. 📢🔔
\"Beryl's center is expected to pass about 45 kilometers south of Barbados,\" said Sabu Best, director of the island's meteorological service. After that, forecasters predict the storm will make her way across the Caribbean, heading towards Jamaica and eventually Mexico. 🌴☔
As of late Saturday, Beryl was chilling about 955 kilometers east-southeast of Barbados. Her maximum sustained winds had risen to 140 kilometers per hour, and she was cruising west at 31 kilometers per hour. 🗺️🏃♀️
Stay safe out there, Caribbean fam! And keep an eye on Beryl’s journey. 👀🌊
