Scorching Heat and Drought Grip China's Heartland 🌞🚰
Central and northern China are feeling the heat—literally! For the 10th day in a row, the Chinese mainland's National Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for high temperatures, as an intense drought scorches provinces like Henan and Hebei.
With 16 national weather stations reporting record-breaking daily highs, it's safe to say things are heating up. 🔥
But don't sweat it just yet! The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has activated a Level-IV emergency response to tackle the drought in Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Shandong, and Henan. (Level I is the most severe, so we're still a few notches away from the top.)
In Shandong province, water resources officials are ensuring there's enough water for homes and livestock. As the wheat harvest wraps up, they've rolled out measures to keep the crops happy and hydrated. 🌾💧
This month, Shandong saw 87.8% less rain than usual—talk about a dry spell! The Yimeng Mountain area, smack dab in the middle of the province, is feeling the brunt of it due to a combo of minimal spring rain and sizzling summer temps.
Local authorities are getting creative, using a cascade water supply plan that taps into reservoirs big and small to keep the fields green. Farmers are also jumping on board with water-saving techniques like drip and sprinkler irrigation. Go team! 💪
By June 11, Linyi City, which oversees the mountain area, had successfully harvested wheat from 4.39 million mu (that's about 2,927 square kilometers) of fields. 🌐🚜
Here's hoping for cooler temps and some much-needed rain soon! 🌧️🙏
