🔥 Cyprus is feeling the heat—literally! 🌞 On Friday, the Mediterranean island recorded its hottest June day ever, with temperatures soaring to a sizzling 45 degrees Celsius (113°F). The extreme heat unfortunately claimed the life of a 91-year-old woman, marking the first fatality of the early summer heat wave.
Health officials reported that the woman passed away at Nicosia General Hospital due to heatstroke. Charalambos Charilaou, a spokesperson for the state health organization, told reporters that she suffered cardiac arrest twice upon arrival at the hospital's accident and emergency department. \"After investigating the incident, doctors determined that the cardiac arrest was a result of heatstroke,\" Charilaou said.
Hospitals across the island have been busy treating cases of heat exhaustion and severe heatstroke, especially among the elderly. At least five other seniors are currently receiving medical care for serious symptoms related to the scorching temperatures.
The Meteorological Department issued its first red alert of the summer, warning residents and visitors to take precautions against the extreme heat. With Cyprus being a popular holiday destination, the usual sun-kissed vibes have turned into a blazing challenge for everyone on the island.
Locals and tourists alike are being advised to stay hydrated, avoid the midday sun, and keep an eye out for signs of heat-related illnesses. 💧😎
Stay cool, friends, and remember: safety first in this sizzling summer! ☀️🔥
