Hey Amigos, have you noticed the weather's been kinda wild lately? 🌪️🌧️ From devastating floods in Afghanistan to record-breaking rainfall in Brazil, extreme weather seems to be hitting hard everywhere. Is this the new normal? Let's dive in!
In Afghanistan, more than 330 people tragically lost their lives as torrential rainstorms and flash floods swept across major parts of the country. 😢 In the northern Baghlan province alone, over 300 people were killed, and more than 1,000 homes were destroyed. Families are left homeless, and communities are struggling to recover.
Meanwhile, down in southern Brazil, two weeks of nonstop rain caused massive flooding and mudslides across the Rio Grande do Sul state. The death toll has climbed to 143, making it the worst extreme weather event to ever hit the region. 😱 With 125 people still missing and more than 600,000 evacuated, the situation is heart-wrenching. More than half of Porto Alegre, the state capital, ended up underwater! 🚣♂️
Governor Eduardo Leite shared earlier this week that it could take around 19 billion reais (that's about $3.7 billion) to rebuild after the floods. That's a huge hit to the region! 💸
So, what's up with all these extreme weather events? Scientists have been warning us about climate change for years, and it looks like it's catching up. 🌡️ Is this the world we have to get used to? Time to think seriously about how we can help protect our planet. 🌍❤️
